So, you have a weekend at your disposal. The dates of your stay in London are 6th December 2010 to 16th December 2010, which means you are free on 11th and 12th of December. Great! Here begins my job, you know what, I am really glad that you want to explore some theater in London. Being a theater artist myself, I can actually give you great reviews on the plays that are happening in London during the time period of your stay. You have already told me that you would be more interested in classic and contemporary, so I will suggest you a few options from the same genre along with a few others (my choice, ofcourse
) that you might like.
So here we go--
Let me quickly browse you through a variety of options (for the weekend) that I am going to discuss with you-
- Places to see- Museums, parks and more!
- Theatre&Music: Classic, Contemporary, Comedy, Opera
- Shopping- Clothes, Memento, Jewelery and much more!
I didn't want to confuse you with more options from here and there so I have confined myself to your taste and requirement only.
Here are a few suggestions on things to look out for while you're in London.
Museum of Brands is located in Notting Hill and it represents consumer history and showcases a large number of modern day brands. It has got all heritage stuff that will give you an idea about London and its culture. Furthermore it has got colors, gifts, and what not!
You will find all kinds of gift items, books toys and other stuff here that you would love to take home for your loved ones. For more information you may click here
Hyde park is a familiar name ofcourse, but this is one place that you should not miss because this is one of finest landscapes of London. More than four thousand trees, a medow, ros gardens, a lake and horse riding paths are sure to take to amidst a serene bliss.

You may also witness a few musical performances and other shows in Hyde Park. All you have to do is just keep a tract on the upcoming events.
Tate Britain and Tate Modern are outstanding national art galleries showcasing some of the premium artworks across the world. Tate Modern has a great contemporary art collection while Tate Britain focuses on British Art forms. So depending upon your taste, you may visit either of them but if you have time, I'd suggest you visit both the museums to get the best of both the worlds!
Well, there quite a few options available for you if you wish to explore the things in a unique way. I will start with the theater activities which will include plays, musicals, operas and others events that might interest you! Go on-

Okay, here is a musical piece for you that brings to you much more than a mere musical drama. The political scenario in which "pins and needles" was written doesn't exist anymore but even then the production is said to be " a musical for our times" by popular critics. It has music, passion, politics, and theatrics at the same time... you surely won't regret giving it a try!
One of the audiences who have seen the production have considered it a must watch. That's what they have to say about it-
"I went last week - brilliant - hard to tell where the1930's ended and 2010 began - it's so relevant to the present. Great acting, singing and direction. Could easily transfer and should be seen by a much wider audience"

I am not very sure if you would love to watch an opera but it revolves around a cute love story that you might enjoy. It's a light and crisp production by John Copley's which is called La bohème. It’s “Puccini's Parisian tearjerker”. Here is a small synopsis of the production-
In Paris' Latin Quarter, one cold Christmas Eve, Mimi meets Rodolfo and they fall in love. He is an artist, living with three other lads, Colline, Schaunard and Marcello, who is going out with Musetta. Both couples break up, but Mimï has consumption and the opera ends in tragedy as Rodolfo finds her just in time, before she dies in his arms.

There are other plays like Beauty and The Beast by Fringe theater, The Nut Cracker, A Christmas Carol, etc that are happening in London during the same time. To catch more such events you keep an eye on the event list. You may also read a few reviews on the same page.
Aaah! Take a deep breath and now go ahead with reading about the shopping. We girls are more excited about shopping than guys and my excitement about getting you the best deals can be seen in the research that I have done for you!

First of all, I have found an entire directory on the top 50 shopping places in London. Click here
No! You don't need to get confused because I have also recommended a few stores that you can visit for your shopping. The list that I have mentioned above will help you with specific shopping related information. So just keep that list with you, it will be of great help.
The best part about the shops here (the list) is that these stores are economical and have almost all the stuff that you would love to take home for your wife. Right from the clothes to the groceries, textbooks and mementos, you name it and they have it!
There are some more places like Cloud Cuckoo Land, where you may find a wide variety of Vintage frocks, skirts, cardigans, etc. At another store called Lost N Found, you could shop jackets. You can buy these stuff for £15-£40. You can get a detailed description of these stores and some other places here.
Candidly speaking, brands and designer wear is easily available in every part of the world. All you have to do is to spend a few bucks but these "one-of-it's-kind" stuff from the random markets is what you should choose to take home. Don't forget to check out some really affordable gowns, you might want to gift one to your wife. (Don't bother about the red carpet, the gown itself is more than enough to sweep your darling off her feet)
So, that's about London! Obviously there are lot more things that you could do here but the ones that I have suggested are more than enough for a weekend. Just in case there is any change in plan and you wish to get around some other places, you can always get back to me. I would love to explore a few offbeat places for you in London.
Since it's a business trip, I am sure you must have already planned your accommodation and flight, just in case you require any information on that I will be glad to help!
Smiles
