Hiya...am glad to hear that you found this information useful. With regards to transport on and around the Islands, let me give you some inputs. I am culling this information from both the Lonely Planet and the official Turks and Caicos Tourism websites.
Taxis: Most taxis tend to be unmetered minivans. The taxi drivers can double as guides to show you around the islands as well. But make sure you negotiate for a good price before stepping into the taxi. On Provo, you can check out Nells (941-3228) and Provo Taxi & Bus Group (946-5481).
Car Rentals: I would recommend a car rental over taxis as taxis might get expensive in the long run. You will require a valid driver's license. There is a government tax of $15 on all hired cars and $5-8 on scooters. Mandatory insurance costs $15. Rentals tend to be about $80 a day and you might want to consider using a local rental over an international one. Following is a list of rental agencies which you might find useful:
Please do remember they drive on the left!!
Buses: There is a bus for tourists called the Gecko Bus (232-7433; US$4). The schedule is on island time and it runs when needed. You can buy tickets from the hotel.
I hope you find all this information useful. Depending on your time constraints and spend at Provo, I would advise going for a car rental over using taxis. This also ensures that you are not hanging around waiting for a taxi or keep negotiating every time you get into one.
Have fun...Cheers
Kirti
