Things to See in France

France is a country with rich heritage, culture and history that goes back to 500 years. It is one of the first tourist destinations in the world closely followed by Spain and USA. France has a lot many things to see and do therefore attracting a lot of tourist attention. It has around 37 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, beautiful cities with rich cultural interest like Paris, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Lyon etc., beaches, seaside and ski resorts, small and picturesque villages that promotes green tourism etc.

I have found couple of cities that fulfills your request of hiking, historic and scenic landmarks etc. Hope you like my recommendations. So please scroll down and read on.

1. Paris

Paris - The City of Lights is one of the most popular tourist destination in France. This beautiful city has many things to see like heritage buildings, museums, parks, galleries, landmarks etc.

Paris is not only famous for its Eiffel Tower but there are many other landmark buildings like Arc de Triomphe, Château de Versailles - a beautiful castle on the outskirts of the city, Notre Dame Cathedral, Opera Garnier - which is an architectural masterpiece, Père-Lachaise Cemetery, Sacré Coeur - a beautiful church located on the highest point in Paris, Sainte Chapelle - also called as the glass chapel etc.

This beautiful artistic city is also popular for its museums and art galleries like The Louvre, Musée d'Orsay - located at a former railway station, Rodin Museum, Picasso Museum, Musée Marmottan-Monet, Musée Delacroix, Les Invalides, Mémorial de la Shoah - which is the Holocaust Memorial Museum etc.

Paris is also popular for its nightlife and there are many vibrant night clubs, bars, restaurants, discotheques etc. This is one beautiful place where you can have a great time with your family and friends.

2. Tours

Tours is a very beautiful city located on the banks of Loire River in the Centre-Val de Loire region of Loire Valley and it is a very important French city popular for some beautiful landmark buildings. Touraine, the region around Tours is popular for its local wine and the perfect local French language spoken.

Major attractions of this beautiful city are Tours Cathedral, Place Plumereau, the Old City Le Vieux Tours, Tours Castle, Cathédrale St. Gatien and the famous Flower Market etc.

Les Prébendes is a beautiful pathway through flowerbeds, lush greenery and a small stream where you can take a walk admiring the beauty of nature. La Gloriette is also a beautiful public park where you can have some great time admiring the experimental vegetables and there is also an adventure park where you can indulge in few rides etc.

There are many quaint little cafes, restaurants, bars etc where you can have some great food and drinks while doing some people watching. Good place to have some great time with your friends and family, while you are in France.

 

3. Hiking Trails in Loire Valley

Loire Valley is also called as the 'Garden of France' and it is also a very popular tourist destination. This beautiful place connects Centre-Val de Loire & Pays de la Loire which are two central and western French regions.

There are many cities located in this valley such as Tours, Amboise, Blois, Chambord, Chinon, Orléans, Saumur, Fontevrault etc. This is one ideal place for going on a hiking tour with your friends and family. You can start from the famous Loire River walk the Royal château route, hiking via the green Sologne forest, to the famous Touraine Vineyards, a route enabling you to enjoy the richness of the Loire Valley area with its unique flavour.

Things to See in Belgium

Belgium is a low lying country located near North Sea coast in the Benelux. It's immediate neighbors are France, Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg.

Belgium although rich and gorgeous in its heritage, doesn't have many explored destinations for tourism apart from cities like Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges, Dinant, Ghent, Leige, Ypres, Mechelen, Leuven etc.

1. Brussels

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and one of the most popular tourist destinations too. There are many things that you can see here like heritage buildings, parks, museums, landmarks, galleries, breweries etc.

The major attractions include Grand Place-Grote Markt which is located in midst of beautiful 300 years old buildings, Manneken Pis - a bronze statue depicting the 'Spirit of Brussels', Parc du Cinquantenaire-Jubelpark, Atomium - one of the most beautiful and popular tourist attractions, Palais de Justice/Justitiepaleis - Law Court of Brussels, Basiliek van het Heilig Hart - fifth biggest church in the world, Mini-Europe etc.

Brussels also have many museums and art galleries such as Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire, Musées Royaux des Beaux Arts de Belgique - the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Musées d'Extrême-Orient - Musea van het Verre Oosten, Musée BELvue - which was a former royal residence, Natural Sciences Museum of Belgium, Autoworld, Musical Instruments Museum, Horta Museum etc.

This vibrant city is also famous for its nightlife, dining, shopping and entertainment centers. This is one great city where you can have some good fun in midst of heritage and culture.

2. Liege

Liège is also the fourth largest city in Belgium and it is an industrial city but that doesn't mean it doesn't have anything special to offer to you. There are many landmarks, heritage site, museums, cultural centers etc.

The major attractions of Liege include The Palace of the Prince-Bishops - this palace is in the heart of the city and it represents the political power of the old Prince - Bishops of Leige, Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame and Saint Lambert, Underground Archéoforum - which is an archeological site with the remains of a roman building and three cathedrals on the site, Place Saint Lambert 9-17 - are a group of neo-classic façades dating back to 19th & early 20th centuries, The Town Hall, PerronHors Château and En Feronstrée - a cluster of old buildings, large villas dating back to 18th century, Museum of Walloon Art, Curtius Palace - a former arms merchants house dating back to 17th century, Saint Barthélémy Church etc.

There are other places of interest like The Museum of Wallonian Life is an ethnological mueseum hosted in an old convent, The Museum of Religious Art, The Mountain of Bueren and the slopes of the Citadel - you can climb a staircase of 373 steps to reach the Citadel slope, Saint Lambert's square etc.

This is a beautiful city with picture postcard like sceneries and lot of places where you can take some good photos. A must see place in Belgium.

3. Liege Hiking Trails

Leige is one place in Belgium that offers a lot of hiking trails over the numerous hills in the city the famous being the Citadel slopes, The Mountain of Bueren and the surrounding hills. Leige is also the second largest city of Wallonia, along a wide river and you can start your walk from the Saint Lambert's square, over the lush green meadows, heritage buildings, parks and flowerbeds,  and end it over the slopes of Citadel by climbing the 373 steps of the staircase.

Things to See in The Netherlands

Netherlands is one of the most populous countries which was more known for its Naval power is now known for its huge wealth of cultural heritage, artists, painters, windmills, flat lands and clogs etc.

Apart from the beautiful Amsterdam, the other notable cities in Netherlands are Delft, Groningen, The Hague, Leiden, Maastricht, Rotterdam and Utrecht. This small country has its own little charm and exploring Netherlands is full of adventure, excitement and fun.

1. Amsterdam

Amsterdam - Venice of the North, is the capital of Netherlands and is one of the most populous cities in the world. It is not only the financial capital but also the creative and cultural center of Netherlands.

Netherlands is known for its beautiful canals that flow along the city under 1500 bridges that are known for its architectural beauty. Amsterdam has many things to offer to its visitors like vibrant nightlife, entertainment, heritage buildings that date back to 12th, 17th & 19th centuries etc. The notable places to see apart from the most popular ones are The Canal Ring, the Old City Center, Jordaan, Maritime Museum etc.

Amsterdam is also popular for its numerous churches and synagogues like The Esnoga, Oude Kerk, Nieuwe Kerk, Zuiderkerk, Noorderkerk, Westerkerk etc that were built between 12th - 19th century.

You can also get a glimpse of modern architecture in Amsterdam viz; Museum of the Amsterdam School, Eastern Docklands, Amsterdam ArenA stadium and the new Bijlmer Arena station. If you are someone who loves to take a look at museums then Amsterdam has a collection of them like Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum etc.

You can also go for some wine tasting and brewery tours and have some great time tasting those spectacular drinks that you have just heard off or might have tried maybe in its imported form in your country/city. For the pub hopping ones there are many bars, pubs, nightclubs, strip clubs etc and for the foodies there are many good restaurants, cafes and local eateries. 

This is one beautiful city to be and you cannot miss the same while you are in Netherlands.

2. Rotterdam

Rotterdam also known as the 'City of Architecture' was known for being the largest port in the whole of Europe and from 1962 to 2004 it was known to be the busiest port in the world which was later on taken over by Shanghai.

The city got its name because of a dam that was built at Rotte city in 1260. This beautiful port city is known for its architectural wonders, vibrant nightlife and entertainment centers. The most popular attractions here are museums like Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Kunsthal, NAI: Netherlands Architecture Institute, Nederlands Fotomuseum, Maritime Museum, Chabot Museum, Het Schielandshuis, Museum De Dubbelde Palmboom, Natuurhistorisch Museum, Wereldmuseum, Mariniersmuseum, Oorlogs Verzets Museum, Railz Miniworld etc.

Other major attractions are City Hall, Erasmus Statue, De Verwoeste Stad Statue, Sylvette, Windmills for which the city is also known for (Windmills De Ster and De Lelie, De Prinsenmolen, De Vier Winden etc).

If you are someone who loves zoos and botanical gardens then you should definitely visit the Rotterdam Zoo, Arboretum Trompenburg, Botanische Tuin Kralingen etc. There are many historic churches too where you can go and check out viz; Grote of Sint Laurenskerk, Paradijskerk, Pilgrimfathers' church and HH. Laurentius en Elisabethkathedraal being the popular ones.

The best way to enjoy Rotterdam is taking a walk over the city admiring the beaches, museums, historic buildings, heritage sites, churches etc. A beautiful place to be with your loved ones while you are in The Netherlands.

3. The North Sea and the West Frisian Islands

For the hiker in you The Netherlands offers the best hiking trails in The North Sea and the West Frisian Islands. This is one of the best places for a hiker who does not like to climb hills, rather you can walk along the North Sea coast, the beaches and the dunes.

You can go for a four day walking tour that will end in Den Helder or you can go for an extension of two days that will end up in the island of Texel (one of the islands in the group of West Frisian Islands). While you go on the walk tour, you can choose whether to walk along the coast or take a route through the dunes and forests. There are paid guided tours as well as self guided tours, so you can pick your choice.

Germany is a very influential country in the whole of Europe that is rich in culture, heritage and history. It is also world's main economic power and has so many things to explore, see and do when you are here.

Germany is a collection of 16 states and each state has its own story to tell to the world and has its own distinct and unique cultures. The most popular cities in Germany are Berlin, Bremen, Colonge, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Nuremberg. These cities are most popular travel destinations in Germany where you can see a lot of World Heritage Structures, historic buildings, landmarks etc. Among the traditional and old world charm of this beautiful country, there is a lot of modernity too like vibrant nightlife, entertainment, shopping and dining centers, modern architecture etc.

Frankfurt has some of the tallest buildings and Commerzbank tower is the tallest among all. 2. Cologne

Cologne is the fourth largest city of Germany located on the banks of River Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia region. This is one beautiful city that is known for its media business, business hotspots and majorly tourism. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany along with Frankfurt.

Other notable places in Cologne are Museum Ludwig, Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Wallraf-Richartz Museum, Römisch-Germanisches Museum, Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum für Völkerkunde, Kolumba, Schokoladenmuseum Köln GmbH etc are few of the most popular museums and galleries here.

There are many tours and cruises you can choose from to enjoy the city. The city is also famous for its cinemas, theaters, nightspots, entertainment arena, shopping and dining areas etc. A wonderful place for wonderful people across the world. You will have some great time here and it will be one of your wonderful memories to cherish in your later years.

3. Hiking on The Romantic Road - Rhine Valley

Rhine Valley also known as the Romantic Road is located between Cologne and Frankfurt cities in the Franconia Region of Germany and is famous for its hiking tours. This heartland of Germany is known for its peaceful valleys, unspoilt medieval towns, rolling countryside and the gushing rivers Main and Danube. This is the very place that has inspired many poets, writers and painters to create their own masterpieces.

Things to See in Switzerland

Switzerland the picturesque country in Central Europe is one of the most beautiful countries and also the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The main source of income for this beautiful country is through tourism and there are many beautiful places here that you can definitely explore.

The most popular attractions in Geneva are Jet d'Eau, the Rade - one of the most prominent sites   where the water pumped from the fountain goes as high as 140m in the air, Cathédrale St-Pierre - located at the highest peak in the Old Town dating back to pre-Roman times, Palais des Nations, Quartier des Grottes, Monument Brunswick, Ile Rousseau - a beautiful island, L'Ile - is the remains of a fortified castle erected in the 13th centuary, Jardin Anglais - an impressive garden near the lake, Place Neuve - an impressive Grand Theater, Eaux-Vives etc.

3. Hiking in the Anniviers Valley - Valais

Valais is a region that lies between Geneva and Lucern and it is known for its valleys, highest peaks and glaciers. I have selected the Anniviers Valley which is located on the left bank of River Rhone in the middle of Canton of Valais region.

You can go for a hiking tour with your partner or friends covering the gushing wild Rhone River, sunny hillsides with vineyards, panoramic nature reserves, deep gorges and above all snow capped mountains. The tour can start from the town of Sierre covering the Zinal Valley, stopping in beautiful alpine villages, before returning to Sierre via Vercorin, enjoying the beauty of nature all the while.

Spain is a beautiful country located at the western end of Mediterranean Sea sharing boundaries with Portugal and Iberian Peninsula. Spain is the second country with the largest number of World Heritage Sites in the world after Italy and it is one of the most exotic countries in the whole of Europe. This exotic country is famous for its relaxed lifestyle, tasty cuisine, famous folklore, friendly people, amazing nightlife and much publicized events and festivals like 'Running of the Bulls'.

Rich in architecture and heritage sites, you can see some of the most spectacular landmarks here in Madrid like, El Prado Museum, Puerta del Sol - the most busiest local transit system in the heart of the city, Statue of King Charles III on horseback, Royal Post Office, Bear and the Madroño Tree Statue, Plaza Mayor - best known local plaza, Casa de la Panadería - beautiful heritage building with two towers, Mercado de San Miguel, Plaza de la Villa, Palacio Real, Catedral de la Almudena, Plaza de España, Gran Vía, Plaza de Cibeles, Plaza de Castilla etc.

There are many beautiful parks in Madrid like El Retiro Park, Royal Botanical Garden, Parque del Capricho, Templo de Debod, La Casa de Campo, Zoo Aquarium Madrid etc. Apart from all the above mentioned sites you can also go for few events and entertaining activities like watching a Flamenco Show in any of the following theaters Corral de la Moreria, Las Tablas, Tablao Flamenco Cardamomo or at Cafe De Chinitas etc.

There are other activities like concerts, operas, watching football, bull fighting, festivals such as La Transhumancia or Madrid Gay Pride etc. This is one great city to be where you can have lot of fun and adventure with your friends and partner.

 

2. Granada

Granada is a medium sized city located in the Andalucia region of Spain. This is one beautiful city that is rich in history, culture and heritage. Apart from the heritage structures this fabulous city is also known for its student nightlife, skiing and trekking points near the Sierra Nevada, monasteries etc.

The most popular attractions in Granada include Plaza Isabel la Catolica, Cathedral of Granada which is the most prominent structures of the city, Royal Chapel, Plaza de Bib-Rambla, Alcaiceria, Corral del Carbón, Plaza Nueva, Museo San Juan de Dios,The Alhambra which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Granada and has a lot many attractions housed within Alcazaba, Palace of Charles V, Palacios Nazaries, Lion Statues, Generalife Palace, Soultana's Court etc.

Other popular attractions here include Albayzín which houses San José Church, Calle Calderería Nueva, San Nicolas Viewpoint, Mosque of Granada, Plaza Larga etc. Places like Museo Cuevas Sacromonte and Sacromonte Abbey are also equally popular among the tourists and locals of Granada.

North Granada has some great places to visit like Elvira's Gate, Hospital Real, Triunfo Gardens, Cartuja Monastery, San Jeronimo Monastery, Basilica San Juan de Dios etc and South Granada has places like Santo Domingo Church, Bermejas Towers, Cármen de los Mártires, Federico García Lorca Museum, Basilica Nuestra Señora de Las Angustias, Rio Genil, Parque de las Cienicas etc.

There are many good cafes, restaurants where you can taste some great local cuisines, bars, nightclubs, shopping and entertainment areas where you can have some great fun.

As per your request I have found a very unique hiking trail along the Wild Coast of Andalucia in Cabo De Gata which is located between Madrid and Granada

Cabo De Gata is a natural park in south Spain that offers a sixty kilometers long wild coast which is full of desert and exceptional landscapes that have found prominent places in movies like Indiana Jones series and many more.

You can take a walk along the wild coast and can stay in the beautiful villages lined along the coastline. You can even explore the now deserted Old Guardia Civil Coastal Fort. A great tour that can make you fall in love with nature again.
