Welcome back and great to hear you are almost set for China! I am going to do my best to help you out for travel insurance for your husband, prepaid mobile phone options and lastly Must-Dos for Shanghai for the dates that you have mentioned.
Travel Insurance
I checked online for travel insurance covers and found a website which collates the information. I haven't inputted finer details of the policies but do click on the links and that should give you comprehensive information on what the policy offers. All of these are Asia-centric policies.
| Company | Charges | Medical expenses incl transportation and evacuation | Loss of Passport | Personal Accident |
| Reliance | 626/- | $25,000 | $100 | $7500 |
| Tata AIG – only covers 14 days | 597/- | $25,000 | $250 | $7500 |
| Bajaj Allianz | 586/- | $25,000 |
$100 Deductible : $25 |
$7,500 |
| ICICI Lombard | 945/- | $250,000 | $200 | $15,000 |
| Apollo Munich | 490/- | $25,000 | $200 | $10,000 |
At first glance, Apollo Munich offers the cheapest policy but if you look at what ICICI Lombard offers, at a more expensive one time payment, you do get a much better deal. But do read the fine print before you get yourself the insurance.
Prepaid mobile phone options
I spoke to a friend of mine who has lived in Shanghai for a while now. She suggested China Mobile as the best option. Just go to any China Mobile store in a mall, show some id proof (reckon your passport should be enough) & you can buy a prepaid mobile card on the spot. They will help activate it for you and also show you how to check balance so you know when to top up.
I found this information online regarding the same, so do have a read please.
