Lovely to get away from the Indian heat and escape to Singapore during the time. But be warned that Singapore is going to be equally hot and humid too. So be prepared to have some fun but do pack your sun tan lotion and grab a beach hat while you are at it.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know some interesting facts about Singapore before I dive into what all you can do for your vacation.

Interesting facts about Singapore

  • Singapore consists of one main island and 63 other tiny islands most of which are uninhabited
  • The national flower of Singapore, Vanda Miss Joaquim, was first discovered in 1893 by Agnes Joaquim, an Armenian
  • The Singapore Sling ( a cocktail) was first served in 1915 at the Long Bar of the Raffles Hotel
  • Singapore comes from the Malay word 'Singapura' which means Lion City
  • There are about 29,000 public toilets in Singapore to a population of 5 million people!

  • Night Safari- It was the first of its kind when it opened. It covers a zoo park area with 900 animals of 35 species over eight simulated warm climate geographical zones.
  • Do visit the Singapore Zoo. Right opposite the Night Safari. Make sure you have breakfast with the orangutans!
  • Flutter around with the birds at Jurong Bird Park. Do read this review of Jurong Bird Park to get a feel of the place
  • Sentosa Island is a must do especially for kids
    • Underwater World is Asia's largest tropical fish oceanarium

Events

You can additionally use Timeout Singapore's page to check for events during the time. As of now, it is showing event listings for the next 14 days but this would come in handy in May as well.

I have also found you a list of events that will give you a general guideline in what is happening in Singapore in May. Hope this helps.

I also found a wonderlink link which showcases Singapore for Kids..so have a peek at this whenever you want to.

Transportation around Singapore

Getting around Singapore can be effortless especially if you use the public transportation system.

* Rail - MRT (Mass Rail Transit) and LRT (Light Rail Transit) are the trains that support Singapore's commuting public. As a tourist, these would cover all the main points of interest.Single-trip tickets cost from $0.80 to $2.00 plus a $1.00 refundable deposit
* Bus - Also an easy way to access the city but their fare system is quite complex so do check with the driver how much it would cost to your destination
* Taxis - They use meters and are reasonably priced. It might be easier to herd your family into a taxi over doing the MRT
* Walking by far is the easiest thing to do in Singapore but with kids in tow I would advise choosing a taxi or the MRT for easy travel in the city.

If you need to get more information about travelling to Singapore, accommodation, shopping options, kid-friendly restaurants and the like which will make your trip easier, I am more than happy to help. So please do write back to us. I do apologise for the terrible delay from our side in getting back to you.

Have a lovely holiday in Singapore....

Cheers

Kirti
