With views as stunning as this, Turks and Caicos is a perfect destination for taking in those azure waves and white-sand beaches. Its your slice of paradise and kudos on your choice smiley

Activities

Water Sports:

Scuba Diving and Snorkeling: There is excellent visibility upto 200 feet, easy conditions and abundant marine life which will make snorkeling and scuba diving a joy for you. There are three operators whose names I have found for you

  • Dive Provo - It is owned and operated by Alan and Clare Jardine, each with 20 years experience in the industry. They are based out of Providenciales and you can check out their website link here for more information
  • Provo Turtle Divers - They call themselves the 'oldest and most experienced diving operation' in the Islands. You can check them out here
  • SNUBA - Based out of Windsong Resort itself, here are some reviews about these guys. I would recommend them based on all the reviews that I have read about them online.

You can also find a much larger list on the official tourism website of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Golf:

Providenciales or Provo as it is popularly called has an 18 Hole Championship golf course. Here is a link which gives you information about rates and green fees which are valid till October 2010.

The other option is the Waterloo Golf Club which is located on the grounds of the Office of the Governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands. The Green Fees are $25 per day, no matter how many times you play. You can call 649-946-2308 for more information when you get to the Islands.

Dining options

  1. Anacaona - Serves International cuisine at the Grace Bay Club. They have an Infinity bar which is a 90-foot long oblong slab of black granite which stretches towards the sea. An excellent option for dinner. Please note, they are not open for lunch or breakfast
  2. Coco Bistro - Lip smacking French cuisine - it is the prettiest place you can find away from the water.
  3. Da Conch Shack - This is not exactly the height of fine dining but for the experience it is a definite must visit. I would recommend this for brunch for sure.
  4. There is even a Sushi bar, Matsuri Sushi bar if you like indulging in some sushi in the Caribbean.

A recommendation on the beer- drink the local Turks and Caicos pale or amber - it is just right for the location and a lot less expensive than other American imports into the Islands. Make sure you tip 15% on the bill in any restaurant.

As for something that would surprise the missus, I would recommend you take her out to Chalk Sound. This is a landlocked lagoon with limestone deposits. The water is an iridescent blue and you can have a look at this photo here on Flickr which should help you make up your mind. I would also suggest a visit to Caicos Café which is on Grace Bay Road for lunch or for a romantic dinner. Terrific food and fabulous ambience makes this a favourite amongst locals as well.

Here is a slideshow from the Turks and Caicos Official Tourism website that showcases the beauty of the islands....Enjoy...

If you would like to know more about the attractions on the Islands, please do write back and I will be more than happy to help.

Enjoy the rum punch in Provo....Cheers...

Kirti
